Toyota bZ3X is the brand's second electric SUV sold in Hong Kong, and like the bZ4X launched last year, it belongs to the bZ (Beyond Zero) series. The new car shares a platform and some chassis hardware with the mainland Chinese car brand GAC AION V, but Toyota emphasizes that the bZ3X's three-electric system and chassis have been redesigned to meet stricter safety standards, including increased cross beams and battery buffer space.

The bZ3X currently has only one version in Hong Kong, with a length of 4,600 mm, width of 1,850 mm, height of 1,645 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,765 mm, which is a standard compact SUV size. Color options include Pearl White, Platinum Phantom White, Steel Fog Grey, and Stylish Black, for a total of four colors. The interior features a 14.6-inch horizontal screen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, equipped with Qualcomm 8155 chip and Toyota Connect system, supporting mobile app connection, navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay. The whole car is equipped with YAMAHA 11-channel audio, 360-degree panoramic view, 32-color LED ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof with an electric curtain, targeting young families.

In terms of power, the bZ3X adopts a front-mounted single motor front-wheel drive layout, with a horsepower output of 150 kW and a torque of 210 Nm. The range under NEDC standard is 565 km, which is sufficient for daily urban and cross-district commuting.

The GAC AION V currently has two versions in Hong Kong: Premium and Luxury. Both adopt a single-motor front-wheel drive layout, but the Luxury version is superior in battery, horsepower, range, and even features. The Luxury offers front genuine leather seats with massage function, a small rear tray table, a large vanity mirror, a cool/warm storage box, and a PM2.5 air purification system.

In terms of performance, the battery capacities of the Premium and Luxury are 64.5 kWh and 75.26 kWh, respectively. Although the horsepower difference is small (130 kW / 150 kW), there is a significant difference in range. Under the NEDC standard, the Premium is 505 km, while the Luxury is 602 km. For users with high usage, the Luxury, which costs about HK$30,000 more, seems more suitable.

Numerically, the ATTO 2 is inferior to the Toyota bZ3X and AION V in terms of battery capacity, range, trunk capacity, and number of airbags. However, the most important thing is that the "One-for-One" price is only HK$155,000. With this significant difference, the ATTO 2 naturally attracts a lot of attention.

Although the price is affordable, there is no compromise on features. The car is fully equipped with amenities, including a 12.8-inch rotating central touch screen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, wireless mobile phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera. In addition, the ATTO 2 also supports a mobile app and NFC car key, the latter only requires placing an NFC-enabled mobile phone close to the side mirror to unlock the vehicle.

In terms of performance, the ATTO 2 has a horsepower output of 130 kW, which is not particularly outstanding, but with 290 Nm of torque and a relatively low vehicle weight of about 1,650 kg, it still has good acceleration performance. In addition, the manufacturer emphasizes that the ATTO 2 adopts "CTB (Cell-to-body) battery body integration technology," and the proportion of high-strength body steel reaches 80.2%, simultaneously improving body rigidity and cabin space.

Toyota bZ3X

For family car owners who value brand, resale value, and "Japanese feel," the bZ3X is a good choice. It is especially suitable for owners who switch from traditional gasoline Toyota/Japanese cars to electric SUVs, as they can retain the familiar brand, after-sales network, and relatively conservative but reliable technology. In addition, the interior is more "Japanese exquisite" in terms of materials, details, and audio, making it easier for family car owners who do not want to be "scared" by too many complex functions to adapt. However, the bZ3X is a collaboration with the mainland Chinese car manufacturer AION, so it is quite similar to the AION V, which may cause more concerns for potential buyers.

AION V

Although it is a sister model to the Toyota bZ3X, the AION V's selling points are its practicality and features, such as providing a long range of 602 km, and having Comfort, Sport, and Eco driving modes, and even the braking and steering wheel can be adjusted in two stages, offering many possibilities. In addition, the AION V's interior features are very complete, with a cool/warm storage box inside the armrest that can be freely adjusted from -15 degrees to 50 degrees, which is convenient for chilling or warming drinks. Overall, the AION V is very suitable for users who like to pursue high technology and multi-functions, but the brand effect, second-hand value, and durability may be potential concerns.

BYD ATTO 2

From the price alone, the ATTO 2 is the lowest of the three cars this time, with the "One-for-One" price only being $155,000, which is obviously aimed at practical users in Hong Kong with a limited budget who primarily use the car for daily urban driving. Therefore, even if the ATTO 2 is smaller in size and has a smaller battery capacity resulting in a not particularly outstanding range, it provides all the necessary smart functions, and the interface and equipment design are more practical, which is more than enough for daily urban use, while parking and navigating narrow roads are also easier.
